AEMT Original and AEMT Refresher and Paramedic Refresher

An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) provides all the essential support of a regular EMT but is qualified to perform critical Advanced Life Support (ALS) interventions. These include advanced airway management, intravenous (IV) therapy, and the administration of life-saving medications.


AEMT Original Course

This program is for those looking to advance their medical training and field capabilities.

  • Eligibility: Participants must be currently certified as an EMT and maintain this certification throughout the duration of the course.

Recertification (AEMT & Paramedic Refresher)

SUNY Niagara provides the necessary educational components for current EMS professionals to meet recertification requirements.

  • Target Audience: Currently certified AEMTs and Paramedics needing to renew their credentials.

Funding & Reimbursement (Firehalls & EMS Agencies)

Participants affiliated with firehalls or qualified EMS agencies are often eligible for NY State DOH tuition reimbursement.

  • Tuition Waiver: SUNY Niagara will temporarily waive the funds expected from the NY State DOH.
  • Student Responsibility: This waiver is a “deferred” obligation. If a student fails to meet the following requirements, they will be billed the full cost:
    • Complete and pass the class.
    • Pass the skills exam provided by SUNY Niagara.
    • Pass the first available NY State certification exam following the course.
  • Refund Policy: Ineligible students will incur full charges based on the Workforce Development refund policy.

Important Notes & Requirements

Course Status: The schedule is currently pending NYS DOH Approval. SUNY Niagara reserves the right to cancel or postpone classes due to enrollment or unforeseen circumstances.

Associated Costs: Students are responsible for all textbooks and specialty certification fees (including but not limited to CPR, PALS, ACLS, and ITLS/PHTLS).

Admissions: Class size is strictly limited. All applicants must satisfy all specific entrance requirements.
