Drafting

Program Overview

If you have ever thought about drafting as a career and don’t know how to get started, these courses are a great low-cost opportunity for you to try out this field.

These courses are designed to transition students from basic drafting knowledge to industry-standard proficiency using AutoCAD, focusing on both digital command structures and advanced mechanical techniques.


Course Offerings

1. Introduction to Computer Aided Drafting Design & Drafting Design Lab

This course introduces the core concepts of engineering drawing preparation using AutoCAD. Students will learn how to develop, edit, retrieve, and store drawings while mastering all common 2D commands.

  • Dates: January 20, 2026 – May 15, 2026
  • Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 PM – 6:20 PM
  • Location: Live via Zoom
  • Cost: $100 (Books and materials purchased separately)
  • Pre-Requisites: Basic knowledge of engineering drawing/drafting, at least 2 semesters of high school mechanical drawing, or relevant industrial experience.

2. Drafting Techniques

Develop proficiency in preparing working drawings acceptable to modern industry. This course moves beyond fundamentals into specialized technical applications.

  • Topics Covered:
    • Tool design applied to dimensioning and tolerancing.
    • Limit, positional, decimal, and geometric tolerancing (English and Metric).
    • Welding layouts and weld strength for major weld types.
    • Introduction to manufacturing materials.
  • Dates: January 20, 2026 – May 15, 2026
  • Time: Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30 PM – 8:20 PM
  • Location: Live via Zoom
  • Cost: $100 (Books and materials purchased separately)
  • Pre-Requisite: Introduction to Computer Aided Drafting Design and Drafting Design Lab (May be taken concurrently).
