Student Success: Persistence and Retention of First-Time/Full-Time Associates Degree Seekers

The College’s largest cohort of incoming students are first-time students taking a full-time load (at least 12 attempted credits). As these students enter SUNY Niagara their outcomes are tracked. Persistence is the first such tracking measure, and it tracks whether a student is still in college in the semester after their first semester (we typically measure this from fall to spring). Retention is the second tracking measure, and we typically measure this in a fall-to-fall cohort, as shown below.

The College’s persistence and retention rates feed into 2-year and 3-year graduation rates. All of these rates went down during and immediately after the C-19 pandemic and are now returning to 2019/2020 baselines.
