AEMT Original

An Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) can provide all of the support provided by a regular Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In addition, they can provide several emergency advanced life support (ALS) interventions that a regular EMT is not qualified for. Some of these ALS interventions include advanced airway management, intravenous (IV) therapy, and administration of additional medicines.

To be eligible to take the AEMT original course, participants must be currently certified as an EMT and maintain this certification throughout enrollment.

AEMT Refresher and Paramedic Refresher

Those in the EMS field such as EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics are required to recertify. SUNY Niagara offers programs that provide these individuals the necessary educational components for recertification. If you are currently a certified AEMT needing to recertify or a currently certified paramedic looking to recertify, these programs can assist you.

Payment for Participants Affiliated with Firehalls or Other Qualified EMS Agencies

Participants Affiliated with Firehalls or Other Qualified EMS Agencies are often eligible for NY State DOH tuition reimbursement. SUNY Niagara will temporarily waive the amount of funds expected from NY State DOH; however, students should be aware that this cost obligation remains if they fail to meet the qualifications for this reimbursement.

Specifically, participants should be aware that this waiver requires they complete and pass the class; pass the skills exam provided through SUNY Niagara; and pass the first available certification exam from NY State after the class concludes.

Should a student not complete the course, not pass the course, not pass required exams, or otherwise find themselves ineligible for reimbursement, they will incur the full charges for the course based on Workforce Development’s refund policy.

Students are responsible for all textbooks and specialty certification costs to include, but not limited to, CPR, PALS, ACLS, and ITLS/PHTLS as applicable. Courses subject to cancellation.

Class size is limited. Applicants must meet and pass/satisfy all entrance requirements.

SUNY Niagara reserves the right to cancel classes based on enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances.
