Position Title: Student Engagement Ambassador – Student Center

Department: Student Life

Reports To: Coordinator of Student Engagement

Positions Available: 2

Position Overview

Student Engagement Ambassadors are the welcoming leaders of SUNY Niagara’s Student Center. Ambassadors support the operation of Thunder Alley (bowling alley), The Den (rec room), and the Gaming Lab, ensuring these spaces are fun, safe, and inclusive for all students. Ambassadors also play a leadership role by mentoring first-year student staff and assisting with the supervision of daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Student Center Operations

● Greet and assist students, staff, and guests using Thunder Alley, The Den, and the Gaming Lab.

● Check out, monitor, and maintain games, equipment, and supplies.

● Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment in all spaces.

● Open and close spaces following established procedures.

Student Engagement & Leadership

● Mentor and support first-year student staff in learning their roles.

● Provide guidance and assist with supervision of staff during shifts.

● Serve as a peer leader and role model within the Student Center.

Customer Service & Events

● Provide excellent customer service and answer questions about Student Life and involvement opportunities.

● Support events, tournaments, and activities hosted in Student Center spaces.

● Promote upcoming events, clubs, and leadership opportunities to peers.

Qualifications

● Must be a second-year SUNY Niagara student in good academic standing.

● Must be willing to work in all Student Center spaces (Thunder Alley, The Den, Gaming Lab).

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills; leadership potential.

● Dependable, responsible, and customer-service oriented.

● All training provided.

● Previous leadership, customer service, or student involvement experience preferred but not required.

Position Details

● Hours: 10 hours per week (flexible scheduling, evenings and some weekends included).

● Positions Available: 2

● Compensation: $16.50 per hour.

● Term of Service: Academic year (Fall–Spring semesters).

● Location: SUNY Niagara Sanborn Campus – Student Center – Thunder Alley, The Den, Gaming Lab.

By serving as a Student Engagement Ambassador, students will:

● Strengthen leadership, teamwork, and mentorship skills.

● Gain hands-on experience in supervising peers and managing operations.

● Develop conflict resolution, customer service, and event support skills.

● Enhance their professional readiness through applied leadership experience.
