Career and Job Placement Services

Student employment provides career-enhancing opportunities, while allowing students to gain experience and acquire the skill sets necessary for successful careers.  For SUNY Niagara students, there are employment opportunities both on and off campus.

On-Campus

• Federal Work-Study Program: This program provides part-time job opportunities to students who demonstrate financial need and are awarded funds as part of their Financial Aid Package.  To check you eligibility, contact the Financial Aid Office at 716-614-6266.
• Part-Time Student Employment: If a student is not eligible for the Federal Work-Study program, other opportunities may be available through individual campus departments, as well as the College Association.  For more information, please contact our office at 716-614-6290.

Off-Campus

We have various employer partners within our local area who are always eager to hire our talented students.  Employers engage with our student regularly through on-campus recruitment and our student job board.

• Career Services Event Calendar: Upcoming on-campus recruitment, employer visits, and other career-related events.
• Student Job Board: Search and apply for part-time, full-time and internship opportunities.

A resume acts as a bridge between you and your prospective employer.  This is your first impression and it is imperative to differentiate yourself from other applicants.  Our office can assist you in building a resume that will highlight your credentials and showcase your skills.

A cover letter introduces you to your prospective employer.  It is your opportunity, to explain in further detail, why you are a fit and how you will benefit their organization.  Your cover letter should align your qualifications, relevant experience, and skills, with the responsibilities and required qualifications outlined on the job description.

The key to a successful interview is to be prepared!  We can help you get more comfortable interviewing by facilitating a mock interview and providing you with valuable feedback you can use to be successful.

• O*NET: The O*NET Interest Profiler can help you find out what your interests are and how they relate to the world of work.  It is a useful tool to help you decide what kinds of careers you might want to explore.
• What Can I Do with this Major?: A valuable resource designed to help connect majors to careers. Users can view various career areas, types of employers that hire within each major, related professional associations, occupational outlook information, and employment opportunities.
• US Bureau of Labor Occupation: Provides information on career fields, education, and training, compensation, and job outlooks.
• Informational Interview Request: One of the best ways to learn about a career is to speak with someone working in the field.  We can assist you in connecting with an employer in your field of interest.
• Career Competencies: The National Associate of College & Employers (NACE) identified 8 career readiness competencies that represent the skills, experiences, and attributes that employers look for when recruiting. Mastering these skills will help prepare you for a successful transition into the workplace!

• Supporting Your Career Journey with DEI Resources
  We are committed to helping all students explore and pursue careers in workplaces that value diversity, equity, and inclusion. The resources below provide guidance, job opportunities, and support for students of all identities, including those with disabilities, first-generation students, and anyone seeking inclusive employers.
  • EEOC Youth – Your Rights: Explains workplace rights for young workers, including protections against discrimination and harassment, and what to do if your rights are violated.
  • NACE – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Provides research, best practices, and resources on DEI in the workplace, offering insights into inclusive hiring and career development.
  • Access VR: A New York State program that helps individuals with disabilities prepare for and find employment through counseling, training, and job placement support
  • Commission for the Blind: Offers career and independent living services for people who are blind or visually impaired, including vocational training and employment assistance
