Student Resources

Accommodations are granted to students with the goal to remove barriers, accommodations do not ensure success in your class. Students can increase their change of success through building a network of skills, tools, and support around themselves. In addition to support students may receive at home, they should take advantage of the other academic
services and student services available through SUNY Niagara in addition to the 3rd party agencies listed below on this page.

Many of the wrap-around services previously included on IEP/504 plans in high school can are supported through:

Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) and FREE Tutoring Services –Library, 2nd Floor D-Building above Tim Horton’s
- Take advantage of 1-on-1 tutoring, and workshops on time management, organization, and study skills.
Success Coaching – Student Success Center, 1st Floor D-102 (Learning Commons)
Personal Counseling – Wellness Center, 1st Floor C-122
Lewis Library – Library, 2nd-4th Floors of D-Building above Tim Horton’s
- Loan technology, digital books and articles, and rent quiet study rooms.

Adaptive Technology

To serve the adaptive technology needs of our students, Kevin Beato serves as our resident Adaptive Technologist. He is responsible for maintaining our technology loans, training our students, training staff, and identifying new and emerging technology to help SUNY Niagara maintain its status with technology-driven accessibility solutions to remove student barriers.

Software: TextHelp Read & Write, JAWS 2022, ZoomText 2022, & Dragon Naturally Speaking.
Hardware: CCTVs, tactile & braille printer, enlarged keyboards, accessible mice, loop and FM systems, accessible stethoscopes, and more…
Misc.: tactile diagrams & images, tactile models, sensory fidgets, standing desks, ergonomic stools and more…

3rd Party Community Agency Support

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the numerous state and community agencies available to support students with disabilities. Many services provided are free or low-cost.

ACCES-VR: Adult Career and Continuing Education Services. Vocational Rehabilitation assists individuals with disabilities to achieve and maintain employment and to support independent living through training, education, rehabilitation, and career development.
New York State Commission for the Blind (NYSCB): The mission of the New York State Commission for the Blind is to enhance employability, to maximize independence and to assist in the development of the capacities and strengths of people who are legally blind.
Accessible Academics: Accessible Academics is a not-for-profit agency that advocates for inclusion and supports people with disabilities to become independent.
Autism Society of WNY
Learning Disabilities Association of WNY (LDA)
Jewish Family Services: Specifically Therapy, Counseling, and Career Services.
Parent Network of WNY
WNY CCDA: The consortium, known as the “WNY CCDA” is comprised of a group of post secondary and secondary education professionals, along with community and government agency representatives who are directly involved in working with students with disabilities. The group was originally formed to address the needs of students with disabilities on WNY college campuses, and has expanded its focus to include the preparation of students with disabilities for transition from high school to college.
