Part time Writing Professional Tutor

General Description:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), the Professional Tutor is responsible for providing academic assistance and learning-centered tutoring in the specific discipline to NCCC students. The tutor will be responsible for maintaining a record of each student tutored (appointment-based and walk-ins). All employees are expected to support the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Academic Center for Excellence and SUNY Niagara.

Professional Tutors with a strong background in writing will be responsible for assisting students with written communication skills (including, but not limited to, ENG or LIT courses). Tutors will help students understand the writing process, how to write thesis statements, how to organize and develop ideas, how to incorporate and cite research effectively (MLA, APA, & Chicago-Style), and how to correct papers for sentence fluency, grammar, punctuation and diction.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree.
• Knowledge of college-level composition (MLA & APA style & format).
• Experience with/knowledge of Microsoft Office.
