Nursing Clinical Assistant Professor (Grant Funded)

SUNY Niagara invites applications for a full time Nursing Clinical Assistant Professor to provide exceptional clinical instruction for students in our Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Certificate and Registered Nurse (RN) Associate of Applied Science (AAS) programs.

The Nursing Clinical Assistant Professor plays a vital role in preparing students for the complexities of modern nursing practice. This position emphasizes patient-focused, hands-on training in clinical and lab settings while fostering the critical thinking and technical skills necessary for student success.

The instructor will also be responsible for program coordination, student advisement, assessment of learning outcomes, participation in divisional and college activities, and all required duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. The typical teaching load is 18 lecture/lab hours per semester. Clinicals may consist of one 12-hour and one 6-hour clinical per week or three 6-hour clinicals per week. Clinical assignments may be during the day, evening, or weekend hours. Classes are held on SUNY Niagara’s main campus in Sanborn, NY. In addition, the instructor will be responsible for attending regular office hours, meetings on campus, and participating in committees.

The base salary of $67,953 per year equates to $59.92 per hour given the 162-day professional obligation of the position. In addition to the base salary, there are many ways to increase the salary further by teaching overload, teaching summer courses, doing special assignments etc. There is a tenure track pathway for promotion to higher level salaries of Associate Professor and Professor

Typical Work Activities
Clinical and Lab Instruction:
Supervise and instruct nursing students in clinical settings, including hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities
Teach and demonstrate nursing skills in lab settings using current equipment and technologies.
Foster critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills through observation, evaluation, and real-time feedback during clinical rotations.
Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical learning objectives and activities to align with program outcomes and accreditation standards.
Teach content in key nursing areas such as Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Maternal/Child Health, Pediatrics, Psychiatric Nursing, and other specialties, as assigned.
Collaborate with other nursing faculty to integrate clinical experiences with classroom instruction.
Mentor and advise students regarding academic progress, clinical performance, and career planning.
Provide guidance to students on professional conduct and nursing best practices.
Ensure compliance with all program policies, accreditation standards, and clinical site requirements.
Promote a safe and respectful learning environment in all clinical and lab settings.
Identify, select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
Development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including, but not limited to, course syllabi and assessments.
Develop and administer tests, practical exams, and assignments to assess students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, clinical site personnel and other professionals on a regular basis.
Ensure all instructional practices comply with accreditation standards, industry guidelines and clinical site policies, particularly in safety and patient care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and enrolled in a Master’s of Science in Nursing program.
  • Proof that one has completed all requirements for a Master’s of Science with a major in Nursing within 18 months of starting the position
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Nursing clinical experience or teaching experience in nursing within the last 5 years.
