Add/Drop Courses

Adding a Course

Students can add a course online in Banner Web anytime prior to the start of the course, provided there is a seat available. Students may also make changes to their schedules during the official Add/Drop period each semester.

Students who wish to add a class after the Add/Drop period or the start of a modular class must seek permission from the Dean or Assistant Vice President of the appropriate division (see contact information below). Once approved, the division office will register the student for the course.

Division Contact Information:

  • Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences (E-234) – 716-614-6720
  • Business & STEM (C-238) – 716-614-6410
  • Hospitality, Baking and Culinary Arts (NFCI – 141) – 716-210-2525
  • Nursing, Physical and Allied Health (B-138) – 716-614-5940

Dropping or Withdrawing from a Course

Students may drop a course online in Banner Web through the 20% point of the course (see Student Calendar for deadlines). Students may also complete the Drop or Withdraw from a Class form to drop or withdraw from a class.

If a student drops a course from their schedule before census day, the course will be deleted and will not appear on their transcript. If a student drops a course after census day, the course will appear on their transcript with a “W” grade, indicating withdrawal.

W Grade – Withdrawal From a Course

The grade of “W” will not affect grade point average but may negatively impact academic standing and/or ability to receive financial aid. After the 13th week of a Fall or Spring (16-week) semester or the 85% completion point of a modular class, summer class(es), or class(es) offered during the Winter Intersession, students will not be allowed to drop a course and will then receive whatever grade the instructor assigns to you.

Modular (“Mod”) courses are courses that are less than a full semester in length. These types of courses may be added at any time prior to the start of the course. If choosing to drop a mod class, the deadlines differ from those of the regular full term (see Student Calendar for deadlines). Please consult the Records Office (A161) for detailed information. During the first 20% of the course, students may drop a mod course and the course will be deleted. After completion of 20% of the course, and up until completion of 85% of a modular course, Summer class, or class offered during Winter Intersession, students may drop the course and receive a W (withdrawal) grade. Students may not withdraw from a modular course after the 85% point of the course.

Please note: If you wish to officially withdraw from the College and drop/withdraw from all classes, please see the section entitled Withdrawals.
