What is Phi Theta Kappa?
Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society for American Association of Community Colleges.
The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Membership Requirements
To join Phi Theta Kappa, students must:
- Be enrolled at a regionally accredited college with a PTK chapter
- Have completed at least 12 credits toward an associate degree
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Uphold PTK’s moral standards
Membership is by invitation only, sent each semester, and requires online registration. If you’re invited but can’t afford the fee, apply through the PTK Hardship Form for assistance.

Being involved with PTK has been one of the most life changing experiences I’ve had at SUNY Niagara. As an officer and member of PTK, I developed great leadership, professional, and personal skills.
