Job Title: Middle School Music Teacher and/or Band-Instrumental Teacher

SALARY: Step 1 is $45,000 and it goes up with experience

We are a PreK-8 Charter School in the City of Buffalo. We are a very unique school in that we have themed classrooms much like a children’s museum that the students rotate to with their teachers. This model helps to build background knowledge and vocabulary giving scholars experiences they might otherwise never get.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Run a vibrant choral music program;
• Grow the music program using creative, interactive, and engaging teaching methods;
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all students in the school;
• Remain current on contemporary and traditional trends in vocal and music education;
• Develop course curricula aligned to learning standards, create lesson plans with defined learning objectives, teach classes, and provide support to students in and out of class;
• Maintain documentation for all students, including information related to grading, behavior, attendance, etc;
• Instruct individuals or groups in instrumental music and foster music appreciation;
• Direct school musicals or ensembles for public performance;
• Help develop educational programs and collaborate with other teachers;
• Communicate proactively with admin, deans, colleagues, and parents as necessary concerning student engagement and performance;
• Recognize musical talent in their students in order to encourage them to undertake further musical studies, such as joining a school orchestra or band;
• Maintain active communications with parents and guardians;
• Supervise after-school activities while ensuring student safety at all times, giving directions appropriate to the activity, and modeling good behavior and citizenship;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications/Education and/or Experience
Teachers must hold or be working towards a NYS professional teaching certificate in their subject area or be eligible for reciprocity to include (1) Minimum Bachelor’s degree in subject area to be taught, Master’s Degree preferred; (2) Proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom and commitment to accountability preferred ; (3) Belief in and alignment with REACH Academy Charter School core beliefs and educational philosophy; (4) Valid New York State Certification, except in cases where the Head of School shall make an exception under the terms of this Policy, in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
