Job Description:
The Niagara History Center (NHC) seeks an experienced part-time Bookkeeper to handle the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial management needs of the Niagara History Center. The NHC is a not-for-profit corporation and has an annual audit prepared by a certified public accountant. The NHC maintains a general ledger system through the use of Intuit QuickBooks and utilizes a cash accounting basis for its financial records. The Bookkeeper reports to the Executive Director and meets regularly with the History Center’s Finance Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Record income received by the Niagara History Center and the Erie Canal Discovery Center; post receipts, including credit card payments and make bank deposits.
• Classify expenses using the NHC Chart of Accounts, secure invoices and confirm expense authorization, including payments utilizing NHC-issued credit cards.
• Maintain current vendor records, including W9s and 1099s.
• Track receipt of grants and the expenditure of grant monies.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and meet regularly with the Finance Committee.
• Enter transactions into Intuit QuickBooks.
• Prepare financial reports as required by the Executive Director and Finance Committee Chairman and in preparation for the annual audit.
