Internship Overview:
This unpaid internship offers a marketing and/or media student the opportunity to assist the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office in developing and executing strategies to attract potential recruits. The intern will gain hands on experience in marketing, community outreach, and public relations within a law enforcement context.
Objectives:
1. Support the Sheriff’s Office in enhancing recruitment efforts
2. Gain practical experience in marketing strategies and community engagement
3. Develop skills in content creation, social media management, and event planning
Key Responsibilities:
A. Research & Analysis:
• Analyze current recruitment strategies and identify areas for improvement
• Research best practices in law enforcement recruitment from other agencies
B. Content Creation:
• Assist in creating promotional materials (brochures, flyers, posters) highlighting career
opportunities
• Draft social media posts and updates to promote recruitment events, Civil Service examinations,
and various career highlights
C. Event Planning & Coordination:
• Assist in organizing recruitment events (job fairs, community outreach)
• Help coordinate logistics, materials preparation, and outreach to potential candidates
D. Community Engagement:
• Collaborate with community organizations and schools to promote recruitment efforts
Learning Outcomes:
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of recruitment marketing within law enforcement
• Gain experience in digital marketing, content creation, and community outreach
• Build skills in project management and teamwork in a professional setting
Supervision & Mentorship:
• The intern will report to the Community Services Lieutenant(s)
• Regular check-ins and feedback sessions will be scheduled to ensure professional growth and
support
Requirements:
• Current enrollment in a marketing, communications, or related program
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with social media platforms and graphic design tools (e.g., Canva)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Pass background check (Felony convictions are an automatic disqualification)

Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter outlining their interest and relevant skills to the Community Services Lieutenant(s). The selected intern(s) must then secure liability coverage from SUNY Niagara to participate in the activities of the internship
