Accounting Manager
Empower, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1954 and has served Western New York, specifically Niagara County, proudly for over 65 years ensuring that individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their loved ones, have access to the highest quality support and services. Empower employs over 300 individuals and provides community programming, job and workforce development, and educational services.
Pay: $59,000 – $ 64,000
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee and monitor month-end close and year-end close. Oversee and monitor preparation for all audits.
• Assist CFO in budget development for new agency programs and in the development of the Agency annual budget.
• Enter all journal entries on computerized financial reporting system.
• Performs reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts.
• Oversee and maintain all facets of agency program billing. Including remaining up to date on all related billing regulations.
• Maintain and monitor agency contracts and compliance with all grant requirements.
• Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets and analyses, and other management reports.
• Under the direction of the CFO prepare and submit the annual Consolidated Fiscal Report.
• Maintain Finance Department policies and procedures, internal control systems, and daily processes. Assist CFO in development and implementation of finance/accounting policies and procedures and internal control systems.
• Maintain all funding source documentation. Knowledgeable of all funding source requirements and processes.
• Attend trainings, participate on committees and complete other tasks and assignments as required.
• Responsible for the financial activities of the agency’s special events.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance or closely related field.
• 3-5 years accounting experience and finance experience.
• Proficiency in financial and cost accounting including understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Ability to perform all of the essential job functions for a minimum of a seven-hour day shift, with a half hour unpaid meal break, without a significant risk of serious injury.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise, and easily understandable reports, worksheets and analyses.
• Proficiency in multi-layered budget preparation.
• Proficiency in general ledger and billing software.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently and as a team player.
• Ability to coordinate activities including workflow, organizing and maintaining records.
